Kanye West Goes Darker with Heartless

kanye west 808s and heartbreak

I’m not going to say it’s hard to be Kanye West, but when you listen to the two released tracks from his upcoming album 808s & Heartbreak, you feel something.  From the sound of these tracks, I’m going to say this album is going to be unlike any other in his collection. The release of this album is already unique with a listening party involving Italian designer Vanessa Beecroft, an LA gallery, and 40 naked women (sorry, no photos.)

The first single, “Love Lockdown,” has Kanye using Auto-Tune technology, diving deep into his heart about the hardships of love. Now, he comes out with “Heartless,” which delves into even deeper, darker places. With a brooding beat and lyrics like, “somewhere far along this road, he lost his soul, to a woman so heartless”, it’s like an Auto-Tune freight train of pain, sorrow and heartache that will run you over. Feel it for yourself by downloading the track.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Kanye West Not Ready to Apologize for Airport Fight

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Legal Issues, Videos,

Although it’s been almost a month since he was detained at LAX, does not appear he’s about to get past that incident anytime soon.

Back on September 11 (a horrible date for any airport arrest), the musician and his road manager were both arrested for damaging a photographer’s equipment. Although West has since been cleared of a felony charge (he only destroyed a relatively inexpensive lighting component), he could still be slapped with a misdemeanor. (It’s unclear what charges his partner-in-crime might still be dealing with.)

Needless to say, Kanye wasn’t entirely thrilled about being questioned recently by another paparazzo:

Video of Kanye West’s Airport Scuffle

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Legal Issues, Videos,

UPDATE: Kanye may now be charged with a misdemeanor instead of a felony.

I’ve always heard that knew how to put on a show, and now we have the video to prove it.

The musician and a road manager were arrested this morning after an incident earlier this morning at LAX. According to TMZ, West (in a grey hoodie) for some reason became angry when he saw a still photographer trying to do what he does. Instead of brushing him off, West reached the pap’s $10,000 camera and eventually smashed it into the ground.

When Kanye’s road manager (Don Crowley) realized that another photographer was rolling on the scuffle, he then grabbed that videographer’s camera and broke it too.

Kanye West No Longer Engaged

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Break-ups,

Kanye West, Alexis Phifer

In the past six months, has experienced a series of highs and lows…personally and professionally.  Just last November, the rapper unexpectedly lost his mother to heart disease after a scheduled surgical procedure.  That setback led to a heartfelt performance from West at this February’s .

Now the 30-year-old artist is currently wowing fans and critics with his Glow in the Dark tour while weathering an another emotional period.  It’s been announced that his wedding to designer Alexis Phifer has been called off.  The couple, who had been engaged since 2006, had reportedly been spending less and less time together during West’s pre-tour preparations.

In a recent blog entry, Kanye said he was wasn’t dedicating his energy to things he didn’t love anymore.  I guess that, sadly, included Phifer.

SNL Hosts Announced for First Three Shows

Seth RoganSNL is set to premiere its 33rd season on September 29th. I have been a fan of Saturday Night Live since I can remember, and while I know it takes a beating by critics and bloggers every year, there is a soft place in my heart for the show. There are some duds—not everything works. But that’s okay. There’s a lot that is right and very funny—and quite frankly, I’m willing to tune in to see how if all turns out. So, the first show of this season will be hosted by basketball star LeBron James, and while I don’t usually dig the shows hosted by athletes, I’ll give it a try. After all, last season’s episode hosted by Peyton Manning was surprisingly one of my favorites. I guess I shouldn’t sell athletes short of their comedic talent. I’ll give it a shot. The second show, however, you don’t even need to ask me twice about watching… super funny Knocked Up star Seth Rogan (pictured here with my sweetie, Paul Rudd) will take on hosting duties on October 6th. Musical guests include Kanye West for next week’s premiere and Spoon on October 6th. Jon Bon Jovi will host on October 13th—yeah, I don’t get that either—but Foo Fighters will also appear.

The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Coverage

Emmy AwardsThe 59th Annual Emmy Awards has not even started, yet I’m already sensing sensing a weird vibe about tonight’s telecast.  Will the show be a celebration of those young and new (e.g. Heroes)?  Will it be a tribute to those bowing out (James Gandolfini and crew)?  Or will performer Kanye West somehow manage to cast a controversial shadow over the rest of the ceremony?

What a difference a year makes.  Twelve months ago, we were still handing out trophies to stars from Will & Grace and The West Wing (those shows feel so five-years ago now).  Today, we welcome a new crop of nominees including Ugly Betty and 30 Rock for Best ComedyLast year, we were entertained by an always-hilarious Conan O’Brien.  This year, we are threatened by a song and dance number from this year’s host, Ryan Seacrest.  Last August, 24 snagged the award for Best Drama.  This September, it’s not even nominated (yet somehow Boston Legal is).

I think it would be safe to assume the voters would predictably (and respectfully) shower The Sopranos with honors, but I’ll still be crossing my fingers for an upset sometime tonight.  We’ll need something to talk about tomorrow…

Here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the neglected West Coast!
